Oregon Scientific To Launch New Barbie™ Digital Camera
Portland, OR September 25, 2004 -- Oregon Scientific, Inc. today announced the acquisition of the Barbie™ brand domestic license from Mattel, Inc. for digital cameras and plans to have a new product on the market by November.
Oregon Scientific will debut the Barbie™ Digital Camera to the press at the Toy Industry Association & Toy Wishes Holiday Preview Show on October 5th in New York and will have it on hand for the American International Fall Toy Show, Oct. 19-21 at the Toy Building (200 5th Ave., Suite #757) in New York, and at the Oregon Scientific booth during the 2005 CES show in Las Vegas. The company is shooting to have the Barbie™ Digital Camera (MSRP $34.99) in stores just in time for consumers to snap it up during the holiday shopping season.
The new Oregon Scientific Barbie™ Digital Camera comes bundled with exclusive ArcSoft™ Barbie™ Photo Designer software that enables downloading of pictures to a PC and provides users with the added fun of photo manipulations, including Barbie™ clipart images and templates for greeting cards and calendars. The product comes packaged with a USB cable for PC connectivity, a hand strap, and a mounting stand.
Pocket-sized (105 x 36 x 32mm), the Oregon Scientific Barbie™ Digital Camera is small, convenient and portable, while its interior is big on technology with an 8MB internal memory that can store up to 20 high resolution (640 x 480 pixels) images or 104 low resolution (320 x 240 pixels) images, while operating on 2 AAA batteries. Other features include an LCD status display, a self-timer with 10-second shot delay, and a rapid shot option that can bunch up to 99 images into a short movie clip. A bonus is the inherent feature to the hardware of the product to act as a webcam when attached to a PC, and the ability to download movie images.
The new camera adds to the 2004 Oregon Scientific line of Barbie™ merchandise, including the new award-winning Barbie™ Interactive Dictionary. The camera and dictionary follow a great track record of success from Oregon Scientific that started with the Barbie™ B-Book™ learning laptop, one of the top electronic learning aids on the market. Other products in the Oregon Scientific line include the Barbie™ B-Creative Education Center™, Barbie™ Interactive Talking Storybook, Barbie B-Book™ Desktop, Barbie B-Bright™ Laptop, and Barbie Tote N' Teach.
Showing the strong performance of the company in only five years, Oregon Scientific was recently named Licensee of the Year by Mattel, Inc.'s Barbie Consumer Products Division, for the second year in a row, and was also named as honoree for Outstanding Marketing Support by Mattel. In 2002, Oregon Scientific was named a Vendor of the Year by Toys R Us, and received Mattel's 2001 Best Hardlines Design and Execution Award for outstanding achievement in design and sales for its Barbie™ electronic learning products .
